Cloakrooms of the Cabourg garden tennis in France : Authentic and Contemporary
The new changing room facility for Cabourg Garden Tennis is posed delicately in the Normandy landscape. The structure combines wood and Danpalon® to reinterpret the traditional half-timber architecture in a new, contemporary way.
“This modern architectural solution was inspired by the site and a preexisting building which gave us the initial volume” explains the architect, Carolina Menezes Ferreira.
To integrate the national circuit of major tennis tournaments, the Garden Tennis of Cabourg in Calvados launched a vast renovation program, including the construction of new changing rooms. This new facility, designed by the Parisian architectural firm, Lemoal lemoal Architecture Paysage, is perfectly integrated in the bucolic setting of Garden Tennis.
The building is a reinterpretation of colombage (half-timber) construction using polycarbonate. “This modern architectural solution was inspired by the site and a preexisting building which gave us the initial volume” explains the architect, Carolina Menezes Ferreira.
For the bearing structure in wood, the architectural firm worked with a local carpenter who devised a simplified half-timber grid that allowed him to preassemble modules in the workshop before transporting them on site. “We chose to keep only the diagonal bracing members,” explains Carolina Menezes Ferreira. The double-pitched roof is covered with locally produced tiles.
As for the implementation of single layer Cristal Danpalon®, this was the ideal way to create a luminous box, delicately underlining the timber structure placed on the exterior. Less expensive than glass, forming a watertight, insulating skin, Danpalon® guarantees both a balanced diffusion of light and visual privacy for the interior spaces. A beautiful harmony.
